Seth Bearden's goal isn't to win just one state title. The Crowell freshman is aiming to win four.

Bearden claimed his first Class A state golf championship Tuesday at Lion's Municipal Golf Course in Austin after shooting a 2-over 73 in the second round, allowing him to leapfrog Blanket's Luke Kinkade into first place. Bearden finished with a two-round total of 145, while Kinkade, who held a one-stroke lead on Bearden heading into the second round, settled for silver by a mere stroke.

“I was going to let him have all the pressure today,” Bearden said. “I was just going out there trying to put a good score on the board. I hoped it would be enough and it was.”

Bearden credited his strong tournament to strong play on and around the green.

“I was putting it pretty good both days,” Bearden said. “I felt good around the greens. I had some very good par saves.”

But Bearden isn't satisfied now that he's grabbed his first state title.

“That's really always been my goal,” Bearden said. “I want to win every time I'm out there. I'm just going to keep working hard and do my best to get better.”
